Located in the Huehuetenango region of Guatemala, The ASOBAGRI Cooperative was founded in 1989 by 20 K'anjob'al Mayan coffee and cardamon farmers. Despite regional political instability and poverty, ASOBAGRI grew steadily throughout the 1990s. The cooperative became certified by Fairtrade Labeling Organizations International (FLO) in 1999. The coop has over 600 members and invests Fair Trade proceeds in environmental sustainability, education, health care, and agricultural diversity.

COCLA is a coffee cooperative association located in the Quillabamba region of Peru, east of the Incan city of Machu Pichu. COCLA consists of 7,500 producers, with women comprising over 25% of the membership. Following a long tradition of coffee growing, cooperative members pass their agricultural skills and knowledge down from generation to generation. In an area with very few economic options, Fair Trade offers a viable alternative to growing coca, the main ingredient in cocaine, and provides funding for crop diversification, nutrition programs, education, and health care.

Based in the Segovia region of northern Nicaragua, Promotora de Desarollo Cooperativo de las Segovias (PRODECOOP) now includes 40 cooperatives and 2,318 members, including over 500 women. Established in 1993 to provide assistance to members’ families in sustainable production and the marketing of their coffee, PRODECOOP invests Fair Trade proceeds in scholarships for members’children, organic production, improved processing equipment, environmental initiatives, and a revolving social fund  for homes, disaster relief and health care.
